Ambassador Marek Magierowski's Statement on Recent Remarks by Some Polish Diaspora Members Regarding Russian Illegal Invasion of Ukraine

08.03.2024

The Embassy of Poland in Washington, D.C. has taken note of the positions expressed by some members of the Polish diaspora - the Polonia - in the United States, regarding Russian illegal invasion of Ukraine and its implications for Poland. We are concerned by the content and the tone of some recent statements, mirroring the Kremlin’s rhetoric in this respect.

At this crucial time in history we remain convinced that the only way to secure peaceful future for Europe and the Transatlantic Community is through ensuring Russia’s strategic defeat in its war of aggression. This view enjoys widespread political consensus and broad support in the Polish society.

Poland will be forever grateful for the contribution of millions of Polish Americans to our country’s integration within NATO. Today, echoing the recent appeal by the Polish Foreign Minister Mr. Radosław Sikorski, we call upon the Polonia in the United States to advocate for our interests that include continued aid for Ukraine, which is defending itself from the Russian aggression.

On the eve of the 25th anniversary of Poland’s accession to NATO and a momentous visit to the White House by President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Donald Tusk, we hope for your enduring support.

Marek Magierowski

Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the U.S.
