Commemoration of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day in Los Angeles

Holocaust Remembrance Day was commemorated with a special video project prepared by the Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Los Angeles, together with the LA Holocaust Museum and the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum.

The Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Los Angeles, in cooperation with the LA Holocaust Museum and the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Oświęcim, prepared a special film project. The Consul General of the Republic of Poland, Jarosław Łasiński, along with the Managing Director of the LA Holocaust Museum, Beath Kean, and the Director of the Auschwitz-Bikrenau Museum, Piotr Cywiński, recorded the message "We remember" and "Never Again". The video also spoke about the special role of Poland as the guardian of the memory of the Holocaust. The premiere of the film project took place on Wednesday, January 27, at the time when the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum began its online celebrations. The recorded message is available on the consulate's social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube) and on the website.

Screening of the film “My Name is Sara”

As part of the activities commemorating the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Los Angeles, in cooperation with the Los Angeles Jewish Film Festival, was also involved in the screening of the film "My Name is Sara" combined with a moderated online discussion, which took place on January 28. Based on the testimony of the survivor Sara Góralnik, the Polish-American film tells the story of a 13-year-old Jewish woman whose entire family is killed, but Sarah manages to find a hiding place in a small village and survive.

The discussion about the film was moderated by Stephen D. Smith, Director of the USC Shoah Foundation. The meeting was attended by: Zuzanna Surowy, producer and director of the film Steven Oritt, producer Mickey Shapiro, who is also the son of the real Sarah Góralnik, Richard Hirschhat Director of AJC Los Angeles and a representative of the Polish Consulate in Los Angeles.
