Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York City hosted Consuls General of the Visegrad Group and NYC's Commissioner for International Affairs

The event officially marked the Polish Presidency of the Visegrad Group from July 2020 to June 2021, and included the following guests: Consul General of Slovakia, Hon. Ladislava Begeç; Consul General of the Czech Republic, Hon. Miroslav Rameš; Consul General of Hungary, Hon. István Pásztor; and New York City's Commissioner for International Affairs, Ms. Penny Abeywardena.

Formed in 1991, the Visegrad Group (V4) is a cultural and political alliance of four Central European countries: the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Poland. As members of the EU and of NATO, their efforts advance cooperation in military, cultural, economic and energy fields and further their integration with the European Union.

As Poland’s Presidency coincides with an unprecedented global crisis precipitated by COVID-19, the post-pandemic recovery was one of the main topics of conversation. The meeting’s agenda also included economic and cultural issues, as well as diplomatic relations and the promotion of the V4 countries in NYC and the United States. It was a platform for discussing joint priorities and future initiatives.

"In the post-Covid-19 era, the Visegrad Group wants to play a significant role in global supply chains in cooperation with American companies. I am glad that we have met to verbalize that want. V4 is represented by almost 70 million of its inhabitants, but we are also here as leaders of the Three Seas Initiative, and that means a very significant number of 180 million inhabitants of Central-Eastern Europe - well-educated, hardworking and success-oriented people," said Adrian Kubicki, Consul General of the Republic of Poland in New York.
