From April 23 to May 2, 2020, a 9-person Polish medical mission from the Military Medical Institute in Warsaw (WIM) will be in Chicago as part of the Illinois–Poland National Guard Partnership, created in 1993. The Polish medical team, which has extensive experience in intensive care, cardiology, nursing care and emergency medicine, will observe, advise and assist in Chicago's medical facilities.

On 10 April 2010, a special TU-154M plane with the President of Poland Lech Kaczyński and the First Lady Maria Kaczyńska on board took off from Warsaw to Smolensk. On that very day the members of the official delegation were to participate in the ceremonies taking place in the Katyn War Cemetery, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the crime committed there. The aircraft carried 96 people, including members of the highest state authorities, representatives of various social circles and religious denominations, high-ranking military commanders and the plane’s crew. All the flight passengers died in the air disaster which took place during landing at the airport near Smolensk.

Easter Monday is an official holiday in Poland. On this day, which falls on April 13 this year, Polish diplomatic missions will be closed.

Krzysztof Penderecki, one of Poland’s greatest contemporary composers who created his own musical language by fusing together avant-garde and traditional elements, has passed away at the age of 86. He composed the “Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima” for string orchestra, the choral “St. Luke Passion” and “Polish Requiem,” as well as the “Seven Gates of Jerusalem” symphony.
