Poland's National Independence Day 2022 in Los Angeles

06.11.2022

We are grateful to our distinguished guests who joined us for the beautiful commemoration of National Independence Day in Los Angeles on Nov. 6th, 2022

Piano recital by Jakub Kuszlik on the occasion of Poland's National Independence Day. The pianist performs works by Polish composers on a black king on stage at the Colburn School in Los Angeles. In the background are the flags of Poland and the United States. A red and white bouquet of roses stands in front of the piano.

A local elected official, representatives of the local consular corps, artistic and cultural activists, and members of the local Polish diaspora took part in Jakub Kuszlik's recital at Thayer Hall at the Colburn School. Works of Polish composers: Grażyna Bacewicz, Ignacy Jan Paderewski, and Frederic Chopin complemented each other beautifully in their diversity.

The music program is part of the Polish Music on Stage project, brought by the National Institute of Music and Dance, and co-founded by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The Recital was also a part of the ‘Inspiring culture programme’, presented in partnership with the Polish Cultural Institute New York and Polish Music Center USC in Los Angeles.

‘The Polish nation managed to endure the tumultuous times of occupation and war by sustaining hope and by constantly working on a dream of a liberated nation, living in a unified, self-governed, and sovereign country’ - said consul Dobrosława Siemianowska in her opening speech.

Consul Siemianowska referred also to Ignacy Jan Paderewski’s speech from 1919. Paderewski in his address at the League of Nations said:

Poland has set up a democracy under the inspiration of the American people. Had it not been for American intervention in Europe we might possibly have had some semblance of independent Government under an autocratic overrule, but with American intervention and American help we have sought to establish not only the independence of the State but also the internal liberty of our people, through the difficult road of democracy.

Paderewski's words underlined each country's universal right to decide its future and the right of a people to self-determination and sovereignty. These are rules and values Poland is continuously supporting. These are also rules and values that, regrettably are being broken by the unprovoked full-scale Russian aggression against Ukraine. We are honored that you have joined us to celebrate the Polish National Independence Day.
