Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Washington, D.C. invites you to celebrate Tamara de Lempicka and the glamour of the 1920s during a two-day cultural weekend in Washington, D.C.

EU Open House Tamara de Lempicka - A Journey Through the 1920s

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Washington, D.C. is proud to announce a weekend of cultural programming on May 10–11, 2025, honoring the legacy of renowned Polish artist Tamara de Lempicka and the timeless elegance of the 1920s.

The two-day celebration will include a themed EU Open House event at the Embassy on Saturday, May 10, and a special screening of the new feature documentary The True Story of Tamara de Lempicka & the Art of Survival on Sunday, May 11, presented in partnership with the JxJ Washington Jewish Film and Music Festival.

EU Open House: The glamouros world of Tamara de Lempicka

As part of the city-wide EU Open House, the Embassy of Poland invites guests to step into the world of Tamara de Lempicka—the groundbreaking Polish Art Deco painter who captured the spirit of modernity, independence, and bold beauty in the interwar years. This immersive and family-friendly event will take visitors on a journey to the 1920s with:

  • A vintage-themed photo booth
  • 1920s dance mini-classes (Charleston, Shimmy, and more)
  • Live piano performances
  • Trivia and prizes inspired by Lempicka’s life and art
  • A kids' corner with face painting, coloring pages, and balloons
  • A real vintage car, reminiscent of Lempicka’s iconic painting “Self-portrait in green Bugatti”
  • Screening of a short documentary “Granny” by Barbara Szumowska

No registration is required. Visitors are welcome throughout the day, and over 2,500 guests are expected.

Film Screening & Talkback: The True Story of Tamara de Lempicka & the Art of Survival

Presented with pride by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, this visually stunning feature documentary follows the extraordinary life of Tamara de Lempicka—from her meteoric rise in 1920s Paris to her flight from fascism and reinvention in the United States. The film offers new revelations about her identity, heritage, and artistic journey, drawing from personal archives and never-before-seen home movies.

The screening will be introduced by Bogdan Klich, Head of Mission at the Polish Embassy, and followed by a conversation with:

  • Julie Rubio, Director
  • Blake Wellen, Co-Producer
  • Marisa de Lempicka, Great-granddaughter and estate manager of Tamara de Lempicka
  • Jack Rasmussen, Moderator
