Director of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum to Visit Venezuela for Events Organized by the Embassy of Poland

Representatives of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum will visit Venezuela for the first time, marking the museum’s first official visit to South America. The visit will take place within the framework of several free public events related to the history of the Holocaust and the importance of remembrance, organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Venezuela with the support of Dr. Nora Fischbach. The museum’s Director, Dr. Piotr Cywiński, and the Head of Memorial Diplomacy, Maria Anna Ossolińska, will lead the delegation.

The first public event will take place in Caracas on June 15 at 10:00 am under the title “An Introduction to Auschwitz” at the Hermano Lanz, S.J. Auditorium of Andrés Bello Catholic University (UCAB). The event will explore the history of the Auschwitz camp complex, its relevance today, and the work carried out by the museum to preserve the memory of the events that took place during the Second World War. The museum’s Director and Professor Nora Fischbach will participate as speakers. During the event, Dr. Fischbach will also be officially appointed as Honorary Consul of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Venezuela. The Metropolitan University (UNIMET) will host the second day of activities open to the public. On June 16 at 1:00 pm, the exhibition “The Auschwitz Experience in the Art of Prisoners” will be inaugurated at the Pedro Grases Library. Prepared by the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, the exhibition exclusively features artworks and quotations created by former Auschwitz prisoners. Representatives of the museum, the university, and the embassy will participate in the opening ceremony.

Later that day, at 2:00 pm, a conference entitled “The Holocaust in History and Memory” will be held at UNIMET’s Manoa Auditorium. The event will feature the same speakers from the first day.
