"Poland in Space” brings science and space exploration to children and adolescents affected by the earthquakes in Venezuela

On August 25, the first presentation in Caracas of the traveling exhibition “Poland in Space” took place. The exhibition is a science and cultural outreach initiative aimed at introducing the Venezuelan public to Poland’s major contributions to astronomy, science and space exploration.
The activity was held at the Francisco Pimentel Temporary Shelter as part of the Ruta de la Esperanza (Route of Hope), a nationwide cultural project that brings artistic, educational and cultural activities to people affected by the recent earthquakes in Venezuela. The first presentation was aimed particularly at children and adolescents.
The event was organized in cooperation with the Astronomy Coordination of the Andrés Bello Catholic University (UCAB), the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research (IVIC) and the Misión Cultura Foundation of the Ministry of Culture of Venezuela.
In addition to visiting the exhibition, participants took part in a variety of science outreach activities led by Professor Maximiliano Bandres. One of the highlights was the “Pocket Laboratory” workshop, a hands-on experience designed to introduce young people to scientific advances through experiments using simple materials.
As a continuation of these activities, an astronomical observation session using a telescope provided by IVIC was held on August 28. This experience gave children and adolescents the opportunity to discover the fascinating world of astronomy firsthand and to complement the exhibition’s educational content with practical observation.
Through “Poland in Space”, participants learned about some of the major milestones of Poland’s contribution to scientific knowledge and the exploration of the universe, from the groundbreaking work of Nicolaus Copernicus to the technological advances that made possible the participation of Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski in the Ignis mission, as part of Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4).
These activities provided an opportunity to spark scientific curiosity among children and adolescents while also highlighting Poland’s long-standing tradition in astronomy, scientific research and space exploration.
