The Embassy of Poland commemorated Venezuelan Journalists' Day
11.07.2025
On the occasion of National Journalist Day, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Venezuela organized a day of cinema and reflection dedicated to those practicing the profession of journalism. The event took place at Trasnocho Cultural and was part of the Polish Cinema in Latin America series—an initiative aimed at promoting intercultural dialogue through the art of film.
During the gathering, the film Mr. Jones, directed by acclaimed Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Holland, was screened. Based on true events, the film offers a profound look into the ethical and personal challenges faced by journalists in contexts marked by censorship and disinformation. The choice of this film highlighted the importance of cinema as a tool for understanding the fundamental role of journalists in the defense of truth.
Following the screening, a panel discussion was held with distinguished members of the Venezuelan media community. The opening remarks were delivered by moderator José Domingo Blanco, followed by contributions from Tinedo Guía, President of the National Association of Journalists; journalist and analyst Nehomar Hernández; and film critic and curator José Pisano. Together, they engaged in a valuable discussion on the contemporary relevance of the film’s themes and their connection to the current realities of journalism.
The event was made possible thanks to the support of institutional partners, including the National College of Journalists of Venezuela, the Trasnocho Cultural Foundation, and the Homoviator Foundation. The gathering was warmly received by the audience, who appreciated the opportunity for cultural exchange and collective reflection.
