Laboratory of Memory – Grotowski Chair

The Laboratory of Memory – Grotowski Chair project was held at Centro TET. It included training workshops, exhibitions, and theatrical events dedicated to Jerzy Grotowski and his influence on Venezuelan theatre.

During the inaugural week, held from 13 to 20 June this year, specialised discussion sessions and a film forum took place. Two exhibitions were also presented and remained open to the public until 18 October.

The first exhibition was dedicated to the Theatre of the Laboratory, the company founded by Jerzy Grotowski and Ludwik Flaszen. The second featured a selection of theatrical productions staged by Centro TET using this acting technique, in tribute to Guillermo Díaz Yuma, the Venezuelan theatre director who passed away last year and championed Grotowski’s Laboratory theatre technique.

From 26 September to 18 October, the Luis Peraza Theatre, home to Centro TET, hosted the project’s final performances. These events were also dedicated to the memory of Díaz Yuma.

As a result of the theatre workshops focused on Jerzy Grotowski’s technique, an adaptation of Heiner Müller’s Hamletmachine, directed by Diana Peñalver Denis, was staged.
