Hourly minimum wage of PLN 12

19.01.2016

Since 1 July 2016, the hourly minimum wage of PLN 12 will apply for contracts of mandate and contracts for services. The bill was submitted to public consultation.

“The draft amendments eliminate the abuse of rates of several zloty, e.g., in the case of hiring employees of security agency or cleaning companies. This situation is unacceptable and we need to change it,” said Elżbieta Rafalska, Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy.

What will change?

The minimum hourly wage of PLN 12 will apply to contracts of mandate and contracts for services to which the order rules apply, with some exceptions.

The minimum wage for natural persons who work under these contracts will amount to PLN 12 gross per hour. The rules are to be applied to all contracts, regardless of the manner in which the remuneration is determined (according to an hourly, monthly, weekly rate etc.).

100 per cent of the minimum wage in the first year

The bill repeals the provision under which an employee's remuneration in the first year of work may not be less than 80% of the minimum wage. This will eliminate the differences in the minimum wage due to job seniority. When the change comes into force, all employees – regardless of their seniority – will be entitled to 100 per cent of the minimum wage.

The draft also provides for amendments to the Act on the National Labour Inspectorate. It has just been submitted to public consultation.
