Forum "Polish Presidency of the EU Council 2025 – Priorities and Vision" in Tirana

On March 27, the forum "Polish Presidency of the EU Council 2025 – Priorities and Vision" was held in Tirana with the participation of representatives of the Polish Embassy in Tirana and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Warsaw. The forum's topic was the current Polish presidency of the EU Council and the prospects for EU enlargement.

The forum, co-organized by the Polish Embassy in Tirana and the leading Albanian think-tank Albanian Institute for International Studies (AIIS), was held at the headquarters of the Tirana Times publishing house. The speakers were Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Poland in Albania Wojciech Unolt, Deputy Director of the Department of Strategy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bolesław Woźniak, as well as Genc Pollo – publicist, historian, former Deputy Prime Minister of Albania, former Minister of Education and Science, and Albert Rakipi – former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Albania, currently President of AIIS. After the presentation of the priorities of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council, its geopolitical context was discussed, including the security situation and threats to the stability of the EU. Referring to the Polish experience from the last three decades, A. Rakipi assessed that Poland is an example of the most successful economic and systemic transformation in the entire EU.

The second part of the meeting discussed the prospects for EU accession of Albania and other countries of the Western Balkans, as well as Ukraine and Moldova. It was noted that in order to join the EU, candidate countries must not only adapt their legislation and economic environment, but also overcome bilateral disputes.

The event gathered representatives of the media, academia and students. Representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Tirana were also present.
