Celebration of the National Day of the Third of May
20.05.2026
On May 20, 2026, we celebrated the National Day of the Third of May. The main event took place at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Brussels.
We were honoured by numerous guests, among whom were representatives of the Belgian authorities and administration, including Ms. Birgit Stevens, Director General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps, the worlds of science, culture, and business, and the Polish diaspora.
In her speech, Katarzyna Skórzyńska, Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Republic of Poland in the Kingdom of Belgium, emphasized the importance of the Constitution of 3 May as an act establishing modern political principles, including the separation of powers and the primacy of law as the foundation of freedom and democracy. She drew attention to the importance of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland of 1997, pointing to its role in strengthening the rule of law. She expressed satisfaction with the bilateral consultations held in February this year, which confirmed the convergence of views between Poland and Belgium on many issues, including within the EU forum. She also stressed the importance of the historical ties between the two countries, recalling the special role of the 1st Armoured Division under the command of General Stanisław Maczek.
