Poland in Belgium

“Today once again we have to fight for the freedom in Europe. The First Armoured Division showed that the road to freedom is long and difficult, but we should not give up on it” said Ambassador Siemianowski during yesterday ceremony on the Polish Military Cemetery in Lommel, Limburg. We had guests from Poland: Karol Polejowski, Vice President of the Institute of National Remembrance and soldiers of the 34 Armoured Cavalry Brigade from Żagań, cultivating the memory of the First Armoured Division of General Maczek. In the event participated Bob Nijs, the mayor of Lommel, Martin Kotthaus, the Ambassador of Germany in Belgium, Hubert Stahl, the Defence Attaché of the Embassy of France in Belgium, and Polish diplomatic and military representatives to NATO and to the EU. This year’s commemoration was special, as in 2022 we celebrate the 130 anniversaries of birth of the three distinguished Polish generals who were fighting on fronts of the World War II: Anders, Maczek and Sosabowski. On this occasion the exhibition devoted to these three heroes and prepared by the Embassy of Poland in London, was jointly presented for the first time in Belgium by our Embassy and the Permanent Delegation of Poland to NATO. 

The Lommel commemoration was also a good opportunity for a meeting to all generations of the Polish diaspora in Belgium, including Polish schoolchildren. Thank you to all of you for being with us in such a great number!
