Photonics Meets Quantum

On 10 June 2026, the "Photonics Meets Quantum" event was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Brussels, organized by the Office of the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) in Brussels in cooperation with the National Contact Point for EU Research Programmes at the NCBR and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Brussels.
The meeting was devoted to the importance of photonic and quantum technologies for the future of the European economy, technological security and the global competitiveness of the European Union.
The event was attended by representatives of the European Commission, research institutions, universities, technology companies and industry organizations from many European countries. The guests were welcomed by Barbara Nieciak, Head of the Political and Economic Department at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Brussels, Piotr Świerczyński, Director of the National Contact Point of the NCBR and Waldemar Dubaniowski, Director of the NCBR Office in Brussels.
Among the speakers were, i.a. Laurent Olislager from the European Commission's Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CNECT), Rafał Duczmal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking and Joanne Wilson, Member of the Board of Directors of Photonics21 and Head of Research at TNO.
The focus of the programme was a debate on the role of photonics and quantum technologies as a strategic priority of European research and innovation policy. Participants emphasized the importance of cooperation between the world of science, industry and public institutions for building European technological capacity and effective implementation of innovative solutions on the market.
The event also provided an opportunity to establish new contacts and develop cooperation between representatives of the European research and innovation ecosystem.
