Poland in Cyprus

The Embassy of the Republic of Poland and the Embassy of Ukraine invite you to visit the exhibition "Mom, I don't want war!" which will be presented in the Centre of Visual Art and Research (CVAR) in Nicosia between 13th and 17th September.

On August 29, at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Nicosia, professor Jolanta Młynarczyk was decorated with the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for outstanding merits for development of Polish-Cypriot scientific cooperation in the field of archaeology. On behalf of the President of the Republic of Poland, the order was awarded by the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the Republic of Cyprus, Mrs Irena Lichnerowicz-Augustyn.

Russia’s aggression against Ukraine marked the end of an era in the history of Europe dominated by a conviction that another great war on the continent cannot happen given the traumatic experiences of the 20th century, while all European nations share a desire for peace. Faced with a tragic turn of events, we have come to realise that imperialism is not just a historical category but the lifeblood of the modern world affecting each of us, however differently, with its destructive power. Moreover, it has also become clear that imperialism cannot be integrated with the free world on a permanent basis, let alone in a harmonious way, by turning a blind eye to imperialistic ambitions, inclinations, or mere habits, by assenting to reasoning and acting in terms of spheres of influence, or by acknowledging historical entitlements or particular economic interests of the most powerful states.

The war in Ukraine has exposed the truth about Russia. Those who refused to see that Putin's state has imperialist tendencies today have to face the fact that in Russia, the demons of the 19th and 20th centuries were revived: nationalism, colonialism, and totalitarianism. But the war in Ukraine has also exposed the truth about Europe. Many European leaders allowed themselves to be lured by Vladimir Putin and today are in a shock.

The most important urban event for the first time will be held in Central and Eastern Europe.

On the occasion of the 231st anniversary of the adoption of the May 3rd Constitution, on May 10th a piano recital by the Polish pianist Piotr Alexewicz was held at the Pallas Theatre in Nicosia.

On May 8, an outdoor photography exhibition "Cultural and architectural Heritage of the European Union" was opened in Limassol.

On May 3rd Poland celebrated its National Day - the 231st anniversary of the adoption of the May 3rd Constitution – the first in modern Europe and the second one in the world.
