The deputy head of Polish diplomacy declared that Poland will continue joint international efforts to combat terrorism within the UN as well as the EU, NATO, OSCE, and the Global Coalition against Daesh/ISIS. He underlined that fighting terrorism and radicalisation will be one of the issues raised by Poland during its 2022 presidency of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

The meeting with the Committee representatives was a summary of the visit of Counter Terrorism Executive Directorate (CTED) experts in Poland in December 2019. During the visit, the UN representatives assessed Poland’s implementation of UN obligations to fight terrorism and radicalisation. They held several meetings with experts from Polish institutions involved in countering terrorism, as well as with the representatives of non-governmental organisations.

During the video conference, the representatives of the UN and member states of the UN Security Council gave high marks to Polish institutions’ and services’ activities to prevent and fight terrorism. Appreciated was also Poland’s political involvement as matching our country’s role of one of the EU’s key member states. The representatives noted substantial investments in the strengthening of relevant infrastructure, among others, to enhance border protection. They also underlined excellent internal coordination of interested ministries and institutions, managed by the Ministry of the Interior and Administration.

The Polish side was also represented by officials from other ministries and domestic services involved in countering terrorism.
