Energy efficiency is one of the priorities of Poland's energy policy and in recent years, Poland has made significant progress in this field. However, an analysis of the EUROSTAT data for 2016 on the energy intensity of economy of the 28 EU Member States indicates that the Polish economy is still nearly twice as energy-intensive (231,2 kg of oil equivalent per 1 000 EUR of GDP) as the EU average (118,6 kg of oil equivalent per 1 000 EUR of GDP). Therefore, there is still a significant potential for additional energy savings and it is necessary to intensify efforts to promote energy efficiency improvements in the whole economy, including by raising awareness and familiarizing relevant stakeholders.

In Poland there are 1.84 million non-financial enterprises, the majority (99.8%) being micro, small and medium enterprises – with the respective numbers being 1.76 million, 59,200 and 15,500. There are a number of financial support instruments for SMEs, including on energy efficiency, but it is necessary to step up efforts to promote and disseminate knowledge about current legal requirements and new technologies and to ensure access to expert knowledge for SMEs.

The general objective of the project is to contribute to an improvement of energy efficiency in SMEs in Poland in order to enhance competitiveness, sustainable growth, job creation and investment, in line with Article 4 of the SRSP Regulation.

Duration of the project: from November 2018 to May 2021.

The project is 100% funded by the European Commission as part of a program to support structural reforms.
