“The response to the death of Raman Bondarenko and the mass detentions in Belarus must be swift and adequate. The EU must clearly signal that there will be no consent to the brutal use of force” - Minister Zbigniew Rau emphasized during the meeting. The head of Polish diplomacy expressed his satisfaction with the political consensus regarding the urgent adoption of the next package of sanctions.

EU ministers had a first opportunity to exchange views on the outcome of the 2020 elections in the United States and the overall direction of transatlantic relations. Discussions on the latter will be continued at ministerial level on 7 December.

During the videoconference, the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh was also discussed. Member States recalled the importance attached to the settlement of this conflict, and the readiness of the EU to play its part in the efforts to bring lasting peace to a crucial region in its neighbourhood.

In addition, discussion was held on multilateralism. Ministers stressed the need to strengthen the EU's global role, cooperate with international organizations and deepen the partnership between the EU and the UN.
