Dynamic promotion of Polish Literature in Greece

20.05.2026

The Thessaloniki International Book Fair, the 22nd edition of which took place from May 7th to 10th, was an opportunity to highlight the growing presence of Polish literature in the Greek publishing market.

Presentation of "White Nights" by Urszula Honek, Thessaloniki 2026

The Polish information stand at the fair, organized by the Polish Embassy in cooperation with the Book Institute, was a key meeting place for Greek publishers and readers, showcasing a wide range of Polish new releases, translations, and a range of support programs implemented by the Book Institute.

The program promoting Polish literature included a meeting with poet and prose writer Urszula Honek, who, together with Natalia Skandali, the translator of her book "White Nights" into Greek, met with readers at the Thessaloniki Fair and then in Athens at the Enastron bookstore. Urszula Honek's collection of short stories was recently published by Vakxikon Publishing House with the support of the Book Institute's ©Poland Translation Program.

The presentation of Zygmunt Mineyka's book "Greece, Albania, Epirus. A Polish Engineer's Perspective on Northern Epirus (1914–1916)" generated considerable interest at the Fair. This unique historical source stimulated discussion about shared history, and the book was presented by translator Dr. Anastasia Chatzigiannidi and Professor Dimitrios Stamatopoulos from the University of Macedonia.

The presentation of Paweł Pawlak's book "Felicia" translated by Urszula Hopko, delighted the youngest readers. The children had already learned about Felicia and her adventures in school and participated enthusiastically in the presentation and accompanying educational workshops.

We thank the Book Institute for their fruitful cooperation!
