Poland in Greece

On the 130th anniversary of the birth of Professor Kazimierz Kuratowski, the Polish Embassy, in cooperation with the Polish Archaeological Institute at Athens, organized a seminar on March 19, 2026, devoted to the history of the Polish School of Mathematics - one of the most important and inspiring chapters in the history of 20th-century science.

The Athenian audience, including a large group from the Polish diaspora, had the opportunity to spend an evening with Lech Majewski and his work at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation in Athens on March 11, 2026.

On the 100th anniversary of the death of Zygmunt Mineyko, a hero of Poland and Greece, the Polish Embassy in Athens, together with the University of Athens, organized a seminar and thematic exhibition. Among the participants were Mineyko's great-grandsons: former Prime Minister Giorgos Papandreou and Professor Andreas Papandreou.

The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Athens, in cooperation with the Polish Investment and Trade Agency Office in Athens and with the support of the Ministry of Development and Technology, organized a seminar promoting the Polish hotel equipment industry in Greece, entitled "Poland for Greek Tourism: Quality Products and Solutions for Hotels and Resorts," aimed at presenting Poland as a key technology and product partner for the dynamically modernizing Greek tourism industry. The purpose of the event was to enable Polish entrepreneurs to establish new contacts with Greek partners and to present the offer of the Polish HoReCa sector.

At the initiative of the Faculty of History and Archaeology of the University of Ioannina and in cooperation with the Polish Embassy in Athens, a historical symposium entitled "Byzantium in Poland - Poland in Byzantium. Past and Present" was held at the University of Ioannina on October 23rd.

The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Athens, in cooperation with the Embassy of Switzerland in Greece and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, organized a seminar on integration policies in the context of migration. The seminar was held at the European Parliament Liaison Office in Athens on 13 November 2025.

For the second consecutive year, Thessaloniki hosted a series of cultural, athletic and informational events under the joint title "Ivanofeia", commemorating the Polish-Greek World War II hero Jerzy Iwanow-Szajnowicz. This event was initiated by the local community and supported by the Polish Embassy in Athens.

At this year's 18th Animasyros International Animation Festival, which will take place from September 22nd to 28th on the island of Syros, we will have the opportunity to watch three short Polish animated films competing in the festival's competition categories.
