Krzysztof Wierciński's Piano Concert in Syros
09.07.2026
The young Polish pianist Krzysztof Wierciński will perform a concert during this year's 10th edition of the ΑΝΩ International Organ Festival on the island of Syros, and flautist Anna Frysz will play with the ΑΝΩ Festival Orchestra.
This year's musical event, organized from August 17th to 23rd by the Catholic Diocese of Syros and the Association of Catholics of Syros, under the jubilee title "10 years of ΑΝΩ – 200 years of Hermoupolis," coincides with the celebration of the bicentennial of the founding of the town of Hermoupolis. The symbol of the Festival is the historic pipe organ in the St George Cathedral in Ano Syros, the oldest working church organ in Greece, built in Italy in 1888 and fully restored in 2019. The Festival program, under the supervision of Artistic Director and conductor Stefanos Tsialis, will include concerts, literary readings, lectures, and exhibitions featuring distinguished artists from Greece and abroad.
Polish musicians have been participating in concerts on Syros since the Festival's inception. This year, we will host pianist Krzysztof Wierciński, who will perform Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the international ΑΝΩ Festival Orchestra, conducted by Stefanos Tsialis. A young Polish flautist Anna Frysz is a member of the Orchestra. The concert is scheduled for Friday, August 21st, at 8:00 PM at the Apollon Theatre in Hermoupolis, with free admission.
Krzysztof Wierciński was born in Warsaw in 2003 into a family with musical traditions, and, following his brothers, began learning the piano at an early age. His older brother, Andrzej, is also a well-recognised pianist, performing worldwide. Krzysztof is currently a student at the Chopin University of Music in Warsaw in the piano class of the eminent pianist and teacher Professor Joanna Ławrynowicz-Just, but has also studied with Leonid Margarius, Ari Vardi, Janusz Olejniczak, Andrzej Jasiński, Elżbieta Stefańska, and Tobias Koch. As a 23-year-old pianist, his achievements include winning second prize at the 2nd International Karol Szymanowski Music Competition in Katowice, the 13th International Chopin Competition in Narva, and the 13th National Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2025. It was this latter title that allowed him to participate in the 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, where he delighted the audience with his performance during the first stage.
Anna Frysz is a passionate flautist who has been perfecting her flute skills since the age of seven. She completed her first degree in flute performance at the Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, in the class of Professor Urszula Janik-Lipińska. Throughout her education, she participated in numerous musical events – she is a laureate of numerous national and international competitions and has performed on stages in Poland and abroad (Germany, the Czech Republic, Romania, Taiwan, Denmark). From a young age, she has played in various instrumental ensembles, such as a flute trio, wind quintet, piano trio, flute orchestra, and symphony orchestra, sharing her artistic sensitivity with others.
The performances of Polish musicians are supported by the Polish Embassy in Athens.
