Poland in Greece

In the frame of celebration of the 200th anniversary of the outbreak of the Greek Revolution, the Department of the Russian Language and Literature and Slavic Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens will organize an international conference on the role of Slavs in the revolution.

The Embassy of the Republic of Poland and the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania are delighted to announce that the winners of the History quiz on the occasion of the 230th anniversary of the Constitution of 3 May of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Mutual Pledge are selected.

The 2nd edition of the Competition will be held from September 11 to 18, 2021 at the Philharmonic Artur Malawski in the city of Rzeszów. Participants will compete for a total prize pool of over 80,000. EUR in two categories - piano and chamber ensembles. The competition is organized by the Institute of Music and Dance, and the main financial prizes are funded by the Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs announces a contest for the best foreign language publication promoting the history of Poland and the best Polish language publication on the history of Polish diplomacy. The contest welcomes works which were published in 2020. Historians can submit their works until 15 August 2021.

On the occasion of the celebration of our National Day on the 230th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution on May 3, 1791 we invite you to watch Stanisław Moniuszko's opera "The Haunted Manor". The masterpiece is characterized by romantic and comedic features and at the same time by a strong patriotic flavor. The Opera was written after the fall of the January Uprising in 1864. It is considered to be the best opera by Moniuszko and the best Polish masterpiece of this type from the 19th century.

This year Poland and Lithuania celebrate 230th anniversary of adopting the first written constitution in Europe – the 3rd May Constitution 1791. The document which created modern political entity on the map of Europe.

This year we celebrate the 230th anniversary of the May 3rd 1791 Constitution. It was the first modern written constitution adopted in Europe. It was also the second constitution in the world after the United States.

When on 3 May 1791 the Four-Year Sejm also called the Great Sejm adopted The Government Act of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth later known as the Constitution of 3 May, the Polish-Lithuanian state became the Europe’s first and the world’s second that passed the basic law. For its time, it was a progressive and bold legal act which initiated a number of reforms. It also constituted a crowning achievement of the centuries-old links between Poland and Lithuania.

The Day of Polish Community and Poles Abroad was established in recognition of the historical contribution of diaspora communities to the national objectives of the country of their forefathers. Celebrated jointly with Polish Flag Day, it is intended to encourage Poles to reflect on the glorious pages of the country’s past.

On April 22nd 2021, between 16.00 and 18.30 EET the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Athens in the framework of the Visegrad Group Presidency in cooperation with the Embassy of the State of Israel in Athens jointly organize an online seminar dedicated to the idea of saving the planet to mark the International Day of Earth.
