Poland in Greece

This year Poland and Lithuania celebrate 230th anniversary of adopting the first written constitution in Europe – the 3rd May Constitution 1791. The document which created modern political entity on the map of Europe.

This year we celebrate the 230th anniversary of the May 3rd 1791 Constitution. It was the first modern written constitution adopted in Europe. It was also the second constitution in the world after the United States.

When on 3 May 1791 the Four-Year Sejm also called the Great Sejm adopted The Government Act of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth later known as the Constitution of 3 May, the Polish-Lithuanian state became the Europe’s first and the world’s second that passed the basic law. For its time, it was a progressive and bold legal act which initiated a number of reforms. It also constituted a crowning achievement of the centuries-old links between Poland and Lithuania.

The Day of Polish Community and Poles Abroad was established in recognition of the historical contribution of diaspora communities to the national objectives of the country of their forefathers. Celebrated jointly with Polish Flag Day, it is intended to encourage Poles to reflect on the glorious pages of the country’s past.

On April 22nd 2021, between 16.00 and 18.30 EET the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Athens in the framework of the Visegrad Group Presidency in cooperation with the Embassy of the State of Israel in Athens jointly organize an online seminar dedicated to the idea of saving the planet to mark the International Day of Earth.

The town of Peta is situated on the border of Epirus and Aetolia-Acarnania region, approx. 5 km from the city of Arta. Today it is the capital of the commune of Nikolaos Skoufas. One of the most dramatic battles of the Greek Revolution took place there on July 4, 1822 (July 16 according to the Gregorian calendar).

On the 200th anniversary of the outbreak of the Greek Revolution, Poczta Polska introduced a stamp commemorating the Polish-Greek hero Jerzy Iwanow-Szajnowicz. The stamp was solemnly presented to the President of Hellenic Republic, to the President of the Hellenic Parliament and to Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos.

Future Health Poland 2021 is a three days virtual event with an online networking platform in use, powered by artificial intelligence. It provides a unique and much-needed opportunity in the face of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, combating postponed physical events and travel restrictions.

The first memorial site dedicated to the Philhellenes who fell in the struggle for liberation of Greece from the Ottoman captivity was established in the city of Nafplio in the Catholic Church of Transfiguration.

The Ambassadors of the European Union Member States in Greece celebrate together the International Women’s Day by paying homage to the European Women who distinguished themselves in the fight against Covid 19.
