Poland in Greece

On May 3rd we celebrate the anniversary of the adoption of Europe’s first written modern constitution and the world’s second (after the US)! The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth’s Constitution was adopted in 1791 by the Sejm (parliament) and signed by the King.

The Publishing House of the University of Warsaw issued a book entitled "Freedom or Death. Polish Philhellenes and the Greek Uprising of 1821. Today, Poland has started its one-year Chairmanship at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). Thus, our country is assuming a greater role in shaping security and stabilisation on the European continent in the spirit of the Helsinki Final Act, whose 50th anniversary we will be celebrating in 2025.

40 years ago in Poland, martial law was introduced. More than 10 000 opposition activists, mainly of the #Solidarność were imprisoned. In the period between 1981-1989, about 100 people were murdered, hundreds were sentenced in political trials and forced to emigration.
