Screening of the film "12 Images of Enslavement" and a meeting with director Lech Majewski
11.03.2026
The Athenian audience, including a large group from the Polish diaspora, had the opportunity to spend an evening with Lech Majewski and his work at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation in Athens on March 11, 2026.
Lech Majewski's latest film, "12 Images of Enslavement," which premiered in November 2025, is a compilation of video art inspired by the works of Jacek Malczewski. Lech Majewski opened up the world of Jacek Malczewski, a symbolist painter from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. In a visual dialogue without words, Majewski recreated the romantic history of Poland, from World War I to the present day. Majewski's artistic vision sparked an in-depth discussion of Malczewski's paintings and his philosophical approach to the issue of "enslavement," both in its historical context and in the face of the challenges of the contemporary world.
After the screening, a Q&A with the director was held. The audience had the opportunity to ask questions about the artist's technique and the inspiration behind "12 Images of Enslavement." The conversation with the director allowed for a deeper understanding of his perspective, vision, and understanding of and reception of Malczewski's works.
The event was organised by the Polish Embassy in Athens as part of the promotion of Polish culture in Greece.
