On the 200th anniversary of the outbreak of the Greek Revolution, Poczta Polska introduced a stamp commemorating the Polish-Greek hero Jerzy Iwanow-Szajnowicz. The stamp was solemnly presented to the President of Hellenic Republic, to the President of the Hellenic Parliament and to Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos.

The issue was initiated by the Polish-Greek Parliamentary Group and its chairman, MP Daniel Milewski, who brought the stamp to Athens and handed it over to representatives of the highest state and church authorities in Greece. At the same time, he emphasized the centuries-old relationships linking our nations and the attachment to common values, as exemplified by Polish Philhellenes who fought for the freedom of Greece during the uprising two hundred years ago, and Jerzy Iwanow-Szajnowicz, the Polish hero of the Greek resistance during World War II.

The President of Greece, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, thanked for the Polish initiative of issuing the stamp, as well as for other gestures of recognition for the 200th anniversary of Greek independence, expressed through a special resolution of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland and a congratulatory letter from the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda.

The President of Parliament, Konstantinos Tassoulas, also thanked Poland for honoring the Greek anniversary and praised the fruitful cooperation between parliamentary groups in both our countries, which has not slowed down despite the constraints caused by the pandemic.
