Passports – general information
A valid passport:
- entitles its holder to cross the border and stay abroad;
- certifies Polish citizenship;
- certifies the identity of a person named in the document (with regard to the information contained in the document);
- is the property of the Republic of Poland.
A passport is valid:
- for 5 years in the case of a passport issued to a child under the age of 12;
- for 10 years in the case of a passport issued to a person aged 12 or over;
- temporary passport—its validity period depends on the circumstances justifying the issuance of the passport, but it is issued for no longer than 365 days.
A temporary passport may be issued, for instance:
- if you are staying outside Poland and are waiting to collect your passport (and you filed the application at the same consular post);
- in the event of an emergency (for example, to enable you to return to the place of your permanent residence, due to illness, funeral of a family member, or work-related matters) if you submit documents confirming the occurrence of the above circumstances, which require you to obtain the document urgently.
Remember!
Honorary consuls do not issue passports.
PLEASE NOTE: When planning to travel abroad, please check the current regulations concerning the rules of entry and stay of foreigners in the territory of the country of your destination, including the regulations concerning the required validity of the passport and whether it is possible to cross the border using the temporary passport.
