25.11.2025
On November 16, the National Library in Kuwait hosted the exhibition "Layers of Time," which presented the discoveries of the Kuwaiti-Polish Archaeological Mission-a joint project of the Kuwaiti National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters (NCCAL) and the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archeology (PCMA) at University of Warsaw.
The event, organized by the Polish Embassy, was also an opportunity to honor Dr. Agnieszka Pieńkowska, Head of the Department of Middle Eastern Studies at the PCMA, with the Bene Merito distinction.
Dr. Pieńkowska specializes in ancient cultures of the Persian Gulf and Eastern Arabia. Since 2013, he has directed the Kuwaiti-Polish excavations on Fajlaka Island, while also serving as deputy head of the Polish-Kuwaiti mission investigating the Bahra 1 site. The ceremony was attended by NCCAL Secretary General Mohammed Al-Jassar, members of the Kuwaiti-Polish Archaeological Mission, representatives of the Polish diaspora, the diplomatic corps, and the scientific community in Kuwait.
