Poland believes that the International Maritime Organization (IMO) plays a crucial role for the maritime community. Conventions, protocols, recommendations, codes and other documents implemented within the IMO set standards applicable worldwide ensuring sustainable development, safety and security of vessels, green shipping and high-level educational programmes and trainings. By gathering 174 countries from all over the world, IMO is a unique organization moderating the most important maritime topics to work out the best solutions.
We can see the challenges for the future facing IMO and all Member States. New technologies, Big Data and digitalization will influence the maritime transport. Also the protection of the environment and the need to reduce the emissions will change the shipping.
As a country with a long maritime tradition, Poland would like to be constantly engaged in IMO works and discussion with our partners from all around the world in the spirit of mutual understanding. We are convinced that an effective dialogue will have a positive impact for the final results beneficial for the maritime community. We would like to share our views and experience.
