The new honorary consul, Per Lykke, is a lawyer, politician, former CEO of Hardangervidda National Park and a great friend of Poland.

Per Lykke was nominated as Poland’s Honorary Consul in Rjukan by Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski on 7 March 2024. His consular district includes the provinces of Vestfold and Telemark. It was the head of the Polish Embassy, Chargé d’affaires a.i. Tomasz Orłowski, who handed over the commission letters to the new honorary consul. The ceremony was led by consul Agnieszka Kucińska-Spyrka.

In their speeches, both Chargé d’affaires a.i. Tomasz Orłowski and Honorary Consul  Per Lykke emphasized the potential of Vestfold and Telemark for the development of Polish-Norwegian relations, the role of honorary consuls in strengthening relations  in regions away from Oslo and the bond between the new honorary consul and Poland.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of local authorities: mayor of Tinn kommune Kathrine Haatvedt, mayor of Larvik Birgitte Gulla Løken, deputy mayor of Skien Helene Røsholt, Siw Langeland from Visit Rjukan, local entrepreneurs and lawyers.

The event brought together representatives of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kommunesektorens organisasjon – Norwegian Association of local and regional authorities, diplomatic and consular corps, accredited to Norway, and CCN – the corps of honorary consuls in Norway.

Trond Olaf Haugland, son of war hero Knut Haugland, was the honorary guest.

The ceremony was concluded with a beautiful musical performance by acclaimed Norwegian artists: singer Synnøve Rognlien accompanied by guitarist Frank Kvinge.

Per Lykke joins three Polish honorary consuls in Norway: Honorary Consul in Trondheim Per Kristian Forseth, Honorary Consul in Ålesund Kjell Sandli and Honorary Consul in Stavanger Bjørn Olav Bredal. He becomes part of a group of more than 200 honorary consuls of Poland around the world.
