Poland in the OECD

Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski took part in today’s opening session of the Warsaw Human Dimension Conference of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

Undersecretary of State Marek Prawda took part in an event organised today in Warsaw to launch Poland’s one-year Presidency of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region**—one of the EU’s four macro-regional strategies, a framework that encompasses also the Adriatic and Ionian, the Alpine, and the Danube regions.

The talks between Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister Jakub Wiśniewski and State Secretary for Development Policy Lotte Machon of the Kingdom of Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs centred on the priorities of the Polish and Danish presidencies with respect to development cooperation and humanitarian aid. Poland and Denmark will consecutively hold Council of the EU presidencies in 2025.

On 9-11 July, Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski accompanied President Andrzej Duda during the meeting of NATO heads of state and government.

On 1 July 2024, Poland for the seventh time begins its one-year presidency of the Visegrad Group (V4) under the motto “V4: Back to Basics.” It refers to the foundations of Visegrad cooperation such as freedom, human rights, the rule of law, and commitment to the process of European integration and cooperation for security in Europe.

Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, instability in the Great Lakes region, and the situation in Georgia were the main points of a Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) meeting in Luxembourg on Monday. The EU ministers also met with their counterparts from the Western Balkans. Poland was represented by its chief diplomat, Radosław Sikorski.

Today’s meeting, attended by Ministers Radosław Sikorski and Annalena Baerbock, was held in a symbolic place on the borderland between Poland and Germany. Connecting the two countries, the Słubice-Frankfurt bridge served as our gate to Europe for years, while the West itself was a different world for generations of Polish people.

On 4 April 1949, in Washington, D.C., twelve Western European countries together with the United States and Canada signed the North Atlantic Treaty to set up a new system of global security.
