The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Manila kindly informs that on March 6th of this year-following the opening of the Honorary Consulate in Tagbilaran-the consular jurisdiction of the Honorary Consul in Cebu has been updated.
The Honorary Consul in Cebu, Ms. Carmel II Durano, is now responsible for Region VI and Region VII, with the exception of the provinces of Bohol and Siquijor. During the official ceremony, the Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Republic of Poland, Ms. Katarzyna Wilkowiecka, accompanied by the Consul of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Sebastian Kmita, presented the letter of appointment authorizing the performance of duties within the new consular district. The Honorary Consulate in Cebu, under the leadership of Ms. Carmel II Durano, aims not only to provide support to Polish citizens but also to intensify bilateral relations in one of the country's most important economic hubs.
Following the inauguration, the Polish diplomatic delegation held a high-level meeting with the Governor of Cebu Province, the Honorable Pamela S. Baricuatro. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Poland and the Province of Cebu. Key areas of potential cooperation were identified, including tourism, trade, and sustainable technology, with a specific focus on waste-to-energy partnerships—an area where Polish expertise can support local infrastructure goals. Both parties expressed a strong commitment to fostering cultural exchange and creating new economic opportunities that will benefit both the Polish community in the Visayas and the local population.
The establishment of the consulate under the leadership of Ms. Carmel II Durano marks a significant step in deepening the friendship between Poland and the Philippines, ensuring better support bilateral relations and a more active presence in one of the country's most dynamic economic hubs.
