Poland in Qatar

Mr. Janusz Janke, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, paid a visit to the headquarters of the Qatari Coast Guard, where he was received by the unit commander Gen. Brig. Nasser Jabor Al Naimi (currently Major General). During the meeting, Polish-Qatari cooperation was discussed, especially the training of subsequent groups of Qatari cadets at the Naval Academy in Gdynia. In a conversation with the Ambassador, General Al Naimi emphasized that he was extremely pleased with the cooperation with the Naval Academy in Gdynia so far, and expressed hope for the further development of the collaboration.

On the initiative of Mr. Janusz Janke, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, a meeting of the heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Qatar was held at his residence . The gathered envoys represented countries which qualified for the FIFA 2022 World Cup. H.E. Salah bin Ghanim Al-Ali, Minister of Sport and Youth, was the guest of honour at the event. The Minister surprised the participants with a gift of official FIFA World Cup balls. The kind gesture was enthusiastically received by the gathered crowd. The guests also had an opportunity to taste traditional Polish dishes.

On 25th July, Ambassador Janusz Janke met with the director of the Department for European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Ambassador Saoud Abdulla Al Mahmoud. The Polish envoy outlined, among others, the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border. The interlocutor expressed his appreciation for the scale of support of the Polish government and society for Ukrainian authorities and citizens - refugees staying in Poland.

During the visit to Doha of Major General Piotr Andrzej Błazeusz, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces and Major General Pilot Dariusz Malinowski, Deputy Operational Commander of the Armed Forces, an agreement was signed on 3 July aiming at bolstering the counter-terrorism capabilities of the Qatari security forces.

For the first time in its 20-year history, the world's largest and most important event devoted to cities - the World Urban Forum (WUF) – is to take place in Central and Eastern Europe in Poland. For five days from 26 to 30 June Katowice will become the capital of all cities in the world.

On 30th May 2022, the Embassy organized another edition of the Qatar-Poland New Tech Forum, in cooperation with the Qatar-Poland Business Council and Qatar Financial Center, which, together with PGNiG S.A. and PKN Orlen S.A., was the Strategic Partner of the meeting.

A delegation of representatives of Qatar Development Bank (QDB) representatives and 8 Qatar producers from the plastics sector visited Poland between 23rd and 28th May this year to participate in the Plastpol fair organized by Targi Kielce. QDB organized a Qatari national stand there as a part of the exhibition.

On 24th and 25th May, Ms. Abby Chan, vice president of Qatar Financial Center for business development, took part in Wolves Summit 2022 in Wrocław. The event was an opportunity to meet Polish and European start-ups and promote Qatar as an attractive place to locate Polish companies in the Gulf region.
