Polish-French Friendship Day
20.04.2026
On 20 April, as part of the celebrations marking the first Polish–French Friendship Day, Ambassador H.E. Mr Tomasz Sadziński met with his French counterpart, H.E. Mr Arnaud Peschoux, Ambassador of France to the State of Qatar. The discussion focused on cooperation between the two embassies, including potential joint initiatives, as well as on the regional situation.
On the same day, Gdańsk hosted the first Polish–French Intergovernmental Summit, co-chaired by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, Donald Tusk, and the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron. The talks centred on strengthening a united, competitive and secure Europe, while subsequent summits are expected to be held alternately in both countries.
The establishment of the annual Friendship Day and the organisation of regular summits stem from the provisions of the landmark Treaty on enhanced cooperation and friendship between the Republic of Poland and the French Republic, signed in Nancy on 9 May 2025.
The celebrations extend beyond cabinet-level diplomacy, with a series of regional events planned in both countries. The Friendship Day also heralds the Polish–French cultural season scheduled for 2027.
The choice of 20 April is not coincidental. On this day in 1995, the ashes of Marie Skłodowska-Curie were laid to rest in the Panthéon in Paris.
