Poland for globally strong Europe: Polish PM for Die Welt

18.02.2020

Polish PM Mateusz Morawiecki in an article for the German daily Die Welt wrote that Poland wants Europe to be a global player.

PM Mateusz Morawiecki

"It is not North that subsidizes East and South, but it earns money, and to be precise, everyone earns it. The thing is not that we create a Union of more or less transparent transfers, but that we strengthen the Union of effective transformation" wrote the Polish PM.

Mateusz Morawiecki also said that "In the long term, the role of the budget will be to set priorities for the Member States and for institutions without which the success of an ambitious and sustainable EU project will never come true".

The PM emphasised that 2020 is a special year for Poland as well as for Europe. "2020 is a unique year for Poland, but also for Europe. We are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Solidarność movement, which helped defeat communism and united people in Europe regardless of their views. The Union needs a budget in the spirit of "Solidarność".
