Ambassador Karolina Ostrzyniewska paid tribute to the victims of the "White Buses” operation

On 21 May, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the Kingdom of Sweden, Ms Karolina Ostrzyniewska, visited Pålsjö Cemetery in Helsingborg, including the recently renovated Quarter XV - the resting place of victims of the German Nazi concentration camps who were evacuated to Sweden as part of the Swedish Red Cross operation "White Buses.”

A total of 69 people are buried at the cemetery, including 40 Polish citizens and 29 individuals of other nationalities who died shortly after being liberated and transferred to Sweden. Each of the deceased has been commemorated with a named grave plaque. In the central part of the cemetery stands a cross from 1946 bearing the inscription: “To compatriots from concentration camps – compatriots from Helsingborg.”

During the visit, Ambassador Ostrzyniewska was accompanied by Mr Marek Małachowski from the Polish Association in Helsingborg, who presented the history of the monument and the city of Helsingborg.
