Celebration of the 3 May Constitution Day at Konserthuset

15.05.2026

On 11 May, the ceremonial celebration of Poland's Constitution Day of 3 May took place at Stockholm's Konserthuset. The evening was highlighted by a concert by sisters Agnieszka Świgut and Aleksandra Świgut, who together with musicians from the Royal Swedish Opera led the audience on a musical journey through Polish landscapes in classical music, "De Polska Landskapen i Ljud”. The guest of honour at the event was the Minister for Culture of the Kingdom of Sweden, Parisa Liljestrand.

The historic Grünewaldsalen, filled to capacity, gathered representatives of the Swedish government and Riksdag, the City of Stockholm, the Armed Forces, cultural institutions, and a large Polish diaspora community.

Guests were welcomed by the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Sweden, Karolina Ostrzyniewska, who emphasized the dynamically developing strategic partnership between Poland and Sweden and the importance of cooperation in the fields of security, culture, and people-to-people exchange. She also referred to the state visit of Their Majesties the King and Queen of Sweden to Poland, which constituted another symbol of the close relations between the two countries. In her address, Swedish Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand highlighted the shared values uniting both nations—commitment to freedom, democracy, and a rich cultural heritage—as well as the significant contribution of Poles residing in Sweden to Swedish society.

The concert by the Świgut sisters offered a musical journey through works by Poland’s most distinguished composers, including Fryderyk Chopin, Karol Szymanowski, and Grażyna Bacewicz. The artists also developed a narrative around the performed works, situating them within a broader European cultural context.

Agnieszka Świgut and Aleksandra Świgut have performed together since childhood and have appeared at concert venues and festivals in Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, the United States, Japan, and Morocco. Violinist Agnieszka Świgut has been a member of the Royal Swedish Opera Orchestra since 2024, while pianist Aleksandra Świgut teaches at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.

They were joined on stage by musicians from the Royal Swedish Opera Orchestra—Florian Huber, Dinara Mansurova, and Kati Raitinen. The concert was organised in cooperation between the Embassy of the Republic of Poland and the Polish Institute in Stockholm.

We extend our gratitude to the artists for an exceptional evening, and to all guests—particularly the numerous members of the Polish community—for joining the celebration.
