Conference of Polish teachers in Sweden and National Reading Day at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Stockholm
10.10.2026
On 10 October 2025, Polish language teachers in Sweden, students and teachers from the Katarzyna Jagiellonka Polish School in Stockholm, and invited guests gathered at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Stockholm for a shared reading of Adam Mickiewicz's "Dziady” ("Forefathers' Eve”). Ambassador Karolina Ostrzyniewska welcomed everyone and extended her best wishes to the teachers on the occasion of National Education Day.
The National Reading event opened with an impressive performance of Part II of “Dziady” by the students. Teachers and guests from the Centre for the Development of Polish Education Abroad (ORPEG) and the St Maximilian Maria Kolbe Institute for the Development of the Polish Language (IRJP) then delivered an enthusiastic reading of “The Great Improvisation”. The evening concluded with a reading of Adolf’s account by Ambassador Karolina Ostrzyniewska and Consul Andrzej Szmidtke.
On the same day, Ambassador Karolina Ostrzyniewska hosted a meeting bringing together representatives of community-run Polish schools and Polish language teaching centres with Professor Przemysław Gębal and Mikołaj Grabowski from the Kolbe Institute. The discussion focused on the Institute’s work and funding opportunities for Polish language education providers in Sweden.
Both events complemented the programme of the annual conference of the Association of Polish Teachers in Sweden, entitled “Wearing a Crown, Living out of a Suitcase: From Catherine Jagiellon to Contemporary Migration”, held at Stockholm University on 10–11 October 2026. Nearly 50 teachers travelled to Stockholm for lectures by Dr Joanna Zatorska-Rosén of Stockholm University, a meeting with author Paweł Wakuła, workshops led by psychologist and trainer Kinga Białek, and training sessions delivered by ORPEG representatives Anna Pierzchała, Aleksandra Szwagrzyk-Kolasińska and Liliana Sosnowska, as well as Professor Przemysław Gębal from the Kolbe Institute.
Big thank you to the Association of Polish Teachers in Sweden for organising the conference and its engaging programme!
