Inauguration of Queens exhibition at Uppsala castle

14.02.2026

The Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Stockholm, Karolina Ostrzyniewska, attended the opening of the Queens exhibition at Uppsala Castle, dedicated to Barbara Radziwiłł (1522-1551), Queen of Poland and Grand Duchess of Lithuania, and Catherine Jagiellon (1526-1583), Queen of Sweden.

Opening of Queens Exhibition at Uppsala Castle

This year marks the 500th anniversary of Catherine Jagiellon’s birth. Through her marriage to John III of Sweden, she became a link between Sweden and the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth – a bridge between nations, cultures and religions. She is also the patron of the Polish School at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Stockholm.

The exhibition was prepared by the National Museum of Lithuania under the leadership of Director General Rūta Kačkutė, with the support of curators Julia Janus, Dr. Milda Kvizikevičiūtė and Dr. Vaida Ragenaiteė, in cooperation with Polish and Swedish institutions, including the National Museum in Warsaw and the Nomina Rosae Foundation. The opening was enhanced by a performance by Uppsala Vocal Ensemble.

On 8 March, the Uppsala Art Museum together with the Polish Institute in Stockholm invite guests to a concert by Cracow Singers, featuring music from the court of Sigismund II Augustus.

The exhibition is open until 23 August – we warmly encourage you to visit.
