Meeting of CBSS Member State Ambassadors with Sweden's Minister for Civil Defence, Carl-Oskar Bohlin

The event was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland as part of Poland's presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS). The main topic of discussion was security and resilience in the Baltic Sea region, one of the key priorities of Poland's presidency.

Minister Bohlin outlined Sweden’s priorities and international engagement in the field of civil defence, including within NATO and the EU. He also presented the current status and main objectives of the reform of the Swedish civil defence system.

The discussion addressed, among other things, the role of private companies in the civil defence system, building public awareness and preparedness for threats, and the lessons learned from crisis response exercises conducted by the Swedish government at the end of November.

Ambassador Karolina Ostrzyniewska, representing the Polish presidency of the CBSS, emphasized that, according to Poland’s presidency, societal resilience and civilian protection are areas where regional cooperation provides the greatest added value and should be consistently strengthened.

Minister Bohlin was accompanied by Johan Berggren, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Defence responsible for civil defence, and Per Bolinder, Director of the Department of Civil Defence at the same ministry.
