08.10.2025
On the occasion of the Railway Day (Museibanans dag) and the end of the season, which this year took place on 27 September, Consul of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Szmidtke - accompanied by Defense Attaché Colonel Rafał Grzegorkiewicz, Vice Consul Andrzej Jach, representatives of the Swedish Polish community, and members of the Swedish-Polish Society (Svensk-Polska Samfundet) - laid flowers at the commemorative monument at the Marielund railway station.
The monument was erected to commemorate the Polish submariners from the submarines ORP Sęp, Ryś, and Żbik, which were disarmed in 1939. In 1940, the crews were sent to a guarded internment camp in Mariefred, on the shores of Lake Mälaren. The memory of the Polish heroes is kept alive in Mariefred through the tradition of raising both the Polish and Swedish flags at the site of their internment every day the railway operates.
