11.11.2023

On 11 November 2023, a celebration of National Independence Day was held at the Embassy of Poland in Stockholm.

Polish Independence Day 2023

The ceremony, organised to honour the 105th anniversary of regaining Poland's independence, was attended by representatives of Polish organisations operating in Sweden and members of Polish diaspora, Polish institutions in Stockholm, Polish-Swedish associations, as well as representatives of the Swedish administration. The meeting was also attended by a group of soldiers from the Polish Army, representing the Naval Air Brigade.

The celebration at the Embassy began with a joint singing of the national anthem, accompanied by the choir of the Polish School of Katarzyna Jagiellonka in Stockholm, which also presented some patriotic songs.

In a celebratory speech, Ambassador Joanna Hofman referred to the historical threads and the long struggle for Poland's independence until 1989, while also thanking representatives of the Polish community in Sweden for their contribution to the fight against communism and the development of liberated Poland. The Ambassador pointed out the huge involvement of Poland and Poles, including those living in Sweden, in providing aid to the fighting Ukraine. The Ambassador emphasised that after 1989 Poland started the process of modernisation of the country in all sectors of the economy, joined the EU and NATO and that today Poles have many reasons to be proud and satisfied with their free Homeland. Polish Consul Maciej Zamościk expressed his appreciation to the local Polish community for their daily efforts in building a positive image of Poland among Swedes. He also extended his gratitude to all members of the electoral committees and those involved in the organisation of this year's elections, emphasising how challenging it was to complete this endeavour.

The celebration of the national holiday was also marked by the commemorative illumination of the building of the Embassy.
