Security in the Baltic Sea Region discussed at CBSS-Format working lunch
07.12.2025
The Swedish Ministry of Defence's Secretary of State, Peter Sandwall, was the special guest at a working lunch organised by the Polish Ambassador on 26 November as part of Poland's presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS). The day before, the Ambassador met with Peter Hultqvist, Chair of the Riksdag's Defence Committee.
The main topics of both meetings were the current international security situation, with a focus on the Baltic Sea region, as well as the ongoing peace negotiations regarding Ukraine’s future. According to Sweden’s Deputy Minister of Defence, Europe must continue efforts to build its own defence capabilities, maintain unity among allies, and provide financial support to Ukraine, including an EU decision allowing the use of frozen Russian assets. For the Baltic Sea region, maintaining determination in the fight against the so-called “shadow fleet” is crucial. Ambassadors representing CBSS member states, as well as the Secretary General of the CBSS Secretariat, also participated in the working lunch discussion.
The meeting with Peter Hultqvist, Chair of the Defence Committee and former Swedish Minister of Defence, provided an opportunity to discuss the implementation of the strategic partnership between Poland and Sweden in the areas of security and resilience.
