30.03.2026
On 27 March, a seminar entitled "Advancing a Sustainable Baltic Sea through Regional Cooperation. PL-SE Case by Race for the Baltic” was held at the headquarters of the Council of the Baltic Sea States in Stockholm. The event was organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Stockholm in cooperation with the CBSS Secretariat and the Race for the Baltic foundation.
The seminar brought together scientists, diplomats, representatives of non-governmental organizations, and companies interested in cooperation for the protection of the Baltic Sea’s marine environment. The discussions focused primarily on the exchange of experiences and practical measures undertaken by Poland and Sweden to reduce eutrophication, protect biodiversity, and strengthen regional cooperation around the Baltic Sea.
Ambassador Karolina Ostrzyniewska recalled the priorities of the Polish Presidency of the CBSS, highlighting the seminar’s distinctive focus on environmental protection.
The discussion panels, moderated by Gustav Lindström, Director General of the CBSS, and Marcin Kotlarek, CEO of Race for the Baltic, featured contributions from, among others, representatives of the Polish and Swedish administrations (Daniel Westlén, State Secretary to the Swedish Minister for Climate and the Environment, and Paula Hanasz, advisor to the Minister at the Polish Ministry of Climate and Environment), the European Commission, HELCOM (Rüdiger Strempel, Executive Secretary of the Helsinki Commission), the Race for the Baltic foundation, and the Stockholm Resilience Centre at Stockholm University.
In addition to broader discussions on the importance of international cooperation in improving the state of the Baltic Sea, participants were presented with concrete examples of initiatives and projects carried out by governments and NGOs to combat pollution in the Baltic Sea.
