23.05.2025
On 22 May 2025, a meeting took place at Stockholm University with students studying the Polish language and participating in courses focused on Poland and issues related to the Polish diaspora. The event was organized by Professor Maria Zadencka, professor of Polish studies and literary scholarship at Stockholm University.
The meeting was opened by Professor Stefan Helgesson, Vice-Rector of Stockholm University and Deputy Director of the Faculty of Humanities.
Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Republic of Poland in Sweden, Karolina Ostrzyniewska, introduced the students to the topic of the Polish diaspora. She presented the main objectives of the Polish presidency of the EU Council, discussed current bilateral relations, Poland’s political and economic situation, and outlined selected elements of the "Government Strategy for Cooperation with the Polish Diaspora and Poles Abroad." These included the teaching of Polish as a foreign language, support for Polish language lecturers working abroad, and the Poland.Business.Adventure program.
The second part of the meeting featured a discussion inspired by the participants' questions, which addressed, among other topics, Poland’s future in the European Union, migration policy, and cooperation with Sweden in the area of security and defense.
We would like to thank Professor Maria Zadencka, the authorities of Stockholm University, and all participants for their attendance and interest in Poland. We look forward to continuing our dialogue and to future joint initiatives.
