During themeeting with Poland’s Ambassador, Karolina Ostrzyniewska, the ECDC representatives shared their experiences of working at the EU agency, which is based in Sweden. They also outlined the main challenges involved in fulfilling its mission to identify, assess and communicate current and emerging threats to human health from infectious diseases.

The discussions also covered ECDC’s cooperation with Poland and the success of the European Scientific Conference on Applied Infectious Disease Epidemiology (ESCAIDE), held in Warsaw in November 2025. This year’s conference will take place in Stockholm and online from 18 to 20 November 2026.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) is a European Union agency based in Stockholm that has been operating since 2005. Its role is to strengthen the protection of public health by monitoring infectious diseases, collecting and analysing epidemiological data, and providing knowledge and expertise to support the prevention of and response to public health threats.
