Deputy Minister Jacek Czerniak at the 35th FAO Conference - discussions on trade, the future of agriculture and food security

Secretary of State Jacek Czerniak attended the 35th session of the Regional Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) for Europe, which was held on 11-12 May 2026 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Deputy Minister Czerniak - on behalf of the Cypriot Presidency - presented the collective demands of all 27 EU Member States. This highlights the strong position and trust that Poland enjoys in the European structures.
The conference in Dushanbe was also an opportunity to emphasise the Polish contribution to developing international food quality standards that protect consumers and support our exporters.
Major topic of the Conference
The major topic of this year’s Session was “Uniting for sustainability: integrating climate action, biodiversity conservation and land restoration for sustainable agri-food systems in Europe and Central Asia”. Cooperation between the countries of Europe and Central Asia within the FAO allows to develop standards that have a real impact on the resilience of supply chains and the quality of food on our tables.
– Poland, as a member of the FAO Council, has consistently promoted food security based on stable supply chains and innovation. Our priority is to transform food systems in a sustainable manner, while supporting education and the position of women in agriculture – stressed Deputy Minister Czerniak.
Bilateral meetings
Apart from the active participation in the Conference debates, Deputy Minister Jacek Czerniak held bilateral meetings on the prospects of developing cooperation in agricultural matters, with particular consideration given to the conditions of access to third markets for agri-food products from Poland.
During the meeting with the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of Türkiye Ahmet Bağcı, Deputy Minister Czerniak expressed the interest of Poland in further increasing the export of agri-food products to the Turkish market.
– For this purpose, among others, we are renegotiating the provisions of the export health certificate for beef – indicated the Head of the Polish delegation.
Deputy Minister Czerniak also invited his counterpart to visit the Polish national stand at the international World Food Istanbul food fair to held in Istanbul in December 2026.
The Secretary of State also met with the Minister of Agriculture of Tajikistan Kurban Hakimzoda. The talks focused mainly on the prospects of increasing mutual trade in agri-food commodities and the possibility of strengthening relations between agricultural research institutes of Poland and Tajikistan.
Deputy Minister Czerniak pointed to the Polish party’s expectation regarding the finalisation of veterinary arrangements for the import of eggs and egg products from Poland to the Tajik market.
During the talks with the Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, Deputy Minister Czerniak raised the issues of the procedure for approving beef, poultry, dairy and fish establishments interested in exporting to Uzbekistan, as well as the arrangements for the export of apple and pear seedlings from Poland to Uzbekistan.
Minister Abdurakhmonov committed himself to personally resolving these questions.
