The future of the Common Agricultural Policy, food security and cooperation between Poland and Hungary in the field of agriculture were the major topics of the meeting between Minister Stefan Krajewski and the Minister of Agriculture and Food of Hungary Szabolcs Bona. The talks were held in Warsaw on the occasion of the official visit of Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar to Poland.

Minister Stefan Krajewski stressed that Poland wanted to develop relations with Hungary both bilaterally as well as within the Visegrad Group and in the European Union forum.

– Hungary is an important partner of Poland, in both political and economic terms. In the face of challenges related to the geopolitical situation and the future of European agriculture, we need good cooperation and joint, effective action in the EU forum – said Minister Stefan Krajewski.

Talks on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy

The Ministers talked about the future of the Common Agricultural Policy post-2027 and the CAP budget. Minister Stefan Krajewski stressed that the EU agricultural policy should remain strong and properly financed.

The Head of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture pointed out that European agriculture needed stable conditions for its development and support that would allow farms to better deal with economic, climate and geopolitical crises.

During the meeting, the Ministers also raised issues related to support for young farmers, rural development, modernisation of farms and empowering farmers in the food supply chain.

Food security and the situation on the EU market

An important place in the talks was taken by the issues of food security and conditions of competition for European producers of food.

Minister Stefan Krajewski presented the measures taken by Poland that were aimed at increasing consumer safety and ensuring a level playing field, including new national legislation on residues of plant protection products in food.

The Ministers also discussed the current challenges for EU agriculture and the situation related to the EU-Mercosur agreement and its potential impact on the European agri-food sector.

Cooperation between Poland and Hungary

Both Ministers stressed the importance of constructive cooperation between Poland and Hungary in the field of agriculture and joint actions of the countries of the region under the discussions held in the European Union forum.

Poland and Hungary have many common priorities concerning food security, the competitiveness of European agriculture and the simplification of legislation for farmers and want to cooperate in the interest of the agricultural and processing sectors.

Trade turnover

Hungary is Poland’s eighth-largest trading partner in terms of value as regards trade in agri-food products. In 2025, the value of Polish agri-food export to Hungary amounted to more than EUR 1.5 billion, which accounts for nearly 3% of total export and the trade balance was positive for Poland. The most important products exported to the Hungarian market include, among others, bakery and confectionery products, poultry meat and pork, milk products and preserves.
