15.04.2026

Polish farmers have been waiting for it and we have done it. Japan is even more open to Polish beef - said Minister Stefan Krajewski after the meeting with the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Norikazu SUZUKI and the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare Kenichiro UENO.

14 April 2026 is a historic day in cooperation between the Ministries of Agriculture of Poland and Japan. Minister Stefan Krajewski went to Asia with a delegation accompanying Prime Minister Donald Tusk. As a result of bilateral meetings organised at that time by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, long-term efforts to expand Poland’s export opportunities to the Japanese market have been completed.

New conditions for the beef export from now on

The Ministers of both countries announced the conclusion of bilateral arrangements and the entry into force of new rules for the export of Polish beef to Japan. The provisions most awaited by the Polish meat industry are the lifting of the age limit of exported cattle and the possibility of exporting processed beef products. This is of great importance for Polish exporters – frozen beef is an important product in the Polish agri-food export to Japan. Now, Polish beef processing plants can expand the shipped product range to include new categories.

– Poland is one of the major exporters of beef in the EU, so the new opening in the export of this type of meat creates opportunities for the further strengthening of the position of Polish beef on the Japanese market – stressed Minister Stefan Krajewski.

Opening of export opportunities for processed poultry products

The Ministers of Agriculture of Poland and Japan also announced the opening of export opportunities for processed poultry products to the Japanese market. The Japanese party approved the first Polish poultry processing plant for exporting that type of products. Minister Krajewski requested an efficient verification of applications submitted by subsequent companies interested in shipping processed poultry products.

Signing of a cooperation agreement between the MARD and the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture

During the meeting with the Minister of Agriculture of Japan Norikazu SUZUKI, Minister Krajewski signed a bilaterally agreed Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of agriculture between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Republic of Poland and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan.

– I am convinced that this document will be an excellent basis for intensifying bilateral contacts and exchanging experience also in the field of innovation and modern agricultural technologies. We want to take advantage of this opportunity and fill the signed agreement with the real, specific content – said Minister Krajewski.

Meetings in both Japanese Ministries – of Agriculture and Health – were also an opportunity to raise issues constituting Polish demands, including access to the Japanese market for our blueberry, full recognition of regionalisation in the field of avian influenza and regionalisation regarding ASF.

Results of exporting Polish food to Japan

This is important information in view of finalising the EU agreement with the Mercosur countries. As I said: the interests of farmers and processors must be secured. Expanding into new markets is our goal – emphasised Stefan Krajewski.

As Minister Krajewski said, Polish food is now a global brand – in 2025, we achieved the record export of EUR 58 billion. This proves the strength of Polish agriculture and entrepreneurship of our producers. Last year, the value of Polish agri-food export to Japan amounted to EUR 80.6 million. We sent there, among others, beef offal, tobacco products for non-smoking use, petfood, fruit juices, fish fillets, down and feathers, pastries and whey.
