Poland and Azerbaijan strengthen agricultural dialogue

04.02.2026

Opportunities to increase trade, expert support and specific initiatives for the agri-food sector - these are the major topics of the meeting between the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Jacek Czerniak with Ambassador Nargiz Gurbanova. The talks concerned the directions of further Polish-Azerbaijani cooperation in the field of agriculture.

Main

– For us, Azerbaijan is an important and prospective partner in the field of agriculture. We notice real potential for the further development of cooperation, both in the field of agri-food trade as well as exchange of experience and expert projects. We are interested in dialogue that will translate into tangible benefits for producers on both sides – stressed Deputy Minister Jacek Czerniak.

Azerbaijan as a strategic partner

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Jacek Czerniak stressed that Poland perceived Azerbaijan as a partner of strategic importance and was interested in further deepening bilateral dialogue on agricultural issues. He also pointed to the openness of the Polish party to exchange experience and to implement joint, mutually beneficial initiatives.

Export and good news for Polish producers

The Deputy Minister informed about the readiness of Polish companies to increase the export of agri-food commodities to the Azerbaijani market. He also welcomed the fact that Azerbaijan had recognised the principle of pre-listing when allowing Polish plants to export products of animal origin, which significantly facilitated access to that market.

Expert support and twinning projects

The meeting was also attended by the representatives of the Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture, who presented the opportunities of expert support for partners from Azerbaijan, among others, by implementing twinning projects and institutional cooperation.

Invitations and new proposals for cooperation

Ambassador Nargiz Gurbanova provided invitations to events organised in Azerbaijan in the nearest future, including the World Urban Forum (WUF13) and Caspian Agro. She also presented proposals for measures aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations in the field of agriculture.

Stable growth of Polish export

For years, the balance in trade in agri-food products between Poland and Azerbaijan has been positive. In 2024, the value of Polish agri-food export to this market amounted to EUR 27.2 million, which means an increase by 10% year-on-year. The export mainly included chocolate and other cocoa-containing products, sugar syrups as well as processed or frozen vegetables.

According to the data for 11 months of 2025, the agri-food export from Poland to Azerbaijan reached the level of about EUR 21.3 million.
